We often see articles about places to go with family, friends, or associates for relaxation or meetings that provide open and interesting spaces, or accommodations and dining that make us feel safe from the unpredictable world of COVID.

When the FFA Training Center first opened more than 20 years ago, I thought its use was limited to members of FFA and their guests. That was a really big misconception. After spending more than a decade on the FFA Foundation Board, I’ve observed people from all walks of life, from different events like “Just Say No” to business meetings, to campers, to weddings, enjoy the center, and it and its staff enjoyed having them.

The center is located a short drive down Firetower Road in eastern Polk County. Just past the entrance on the right is a new sporting clays facility that’s family oriented. Further down with Lake Pierce in view are the cabins, separate meeting facilities, and the centerpiece —Griffin Lodge.

Ben Hill Griffin Lodge is a step back in time. Comfortable, affordable, a true place of respite for groups small or large. A North Carolina atmosphere in your backyard. The expanse of Lake Pierce is your view from the back porch, and a long dock into the Lake Provides a spot to see the sun drop in the west. As you walk from a cabin to the dining hall, a deer may cross your path.

FFA members and advisors have led the way in acting responsibly in the time of COVID. October 12 -16 at the Beast Feast, there will be a Zoom/online silent auction. Feel free to donate something special to you. Call 863-439-7332, or go online for a virtual tour at www.Flaltc.org. Or better still, take a drive any day of the week out to the center, walk in the lodge to say hello, or gaze out across the lake and enjoy leaving the world behind.
