Is healthy living important to you? It has just become more important to Florida. Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam and other agriculture industry leaders launched the “Living Healthy in Florida” campaign. Putnam said the initiative is the first of its kind to combine the resources of elected officials, state agencies, nonprofits and others in order to communicate consistent information to Florida’s children, families and senior adults on healthy eating, good nutrition and active living.

The initiative will show residents the peak seasons for Florida agriculture, so families can save on grocery bills and cook better meals at home. The initiative work group created a tool kit, available at LivingHealthyinFL.com, with common health and wellness messages. The kit includes a harvesting calendar showcasing Florida fruits and vegetables to help families eat healthy and save money. As a means to help promote the initiative, the tool kit includes on topic shareable information for use with websites, newsletters, and social media.

The program supports the efforts of The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to focus on nutrition and active living for children and will share the messages through the statewide school nutrition programs. Schools have already received an electronic copy of the toolkit.

So, now it’s your turn. Are you ready to focus on healthy living? Download a toolkit and enjoy Florida’s wonderful agriculture.
