Happy Birthday to the United States Army. On June 14, we celebrate Flag Day to commemorate the adoption of the United States Flag back in 1977. The Army also celebrates its birthday on this day.
In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued the proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. It is important holidays like these that bring out the patriotic side of people and remind us of our many freedoms and blessings.
Flag Day isn’t as nationally recognized or celebrated as The Fourth of July, but the importance behind the day is there. It’s such an important flag, it adorns the cratered landscape of the moon. Photos from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter prove the American flags planted by Apollo astronauts still stand on the moon.
The National Flag Day Foundation was formed to carry on the tradition of the first Flag Day celebration. The advocates strive to teach Americanism to scouts, 4-H groups, the VFW and other great patriots by teaching lessons of the great American Flag.
